Sometimes the journey itself is the destination. While driving the Montero across island highways is usually our go-to way of traveling, taking a long-distance sea voyage across the Philippine archipelago offers a completely different kind of relaxation for the whole family.
For this trip, we hopped aboard one of 2GO Travel’s flagship passenger vessels—the MV 2GO Masagana—sailing all the way from Cagayan de Oro (CDO) to Cebu, and onward to Manila.
How to Get There & Route Overview
If you’re starting from Northern Mindanao or neighboring areas like Iligan City, CDO’s Macabalan Port is the main gateway for 2GO’s inter-island routes.
- Departure Port: Port of Cagayan de Oro (Macabalan Port)
- Route: Cagayan de Oro ➔ Cebu City ➔ Manila (Pier 4, North Harbor)
- Transit Experience: The CDO to Cebu leg gives you a relaxing overnight rest on the water, while continuing on to Manila lets you enjoy a full cruise-like experience through the Visayan seas and out into Luzon.
Business Cabin for 4: Room Tour & Comfort
When traveling as a family, privacy and space make a world of difference. Instead of the open tourist or mega-arena bunk spaces, we booked a private Business Class Cabin for 4.
Stepping into the cabin immediately set a cozy tone for our multi-leg voyage:
- Private Room Setup: Comes with two sturdy bunk bed sets (sleeping up to four people), giving everyone their own comfortable space and private curtained bunks.
- In-Room Amenities: Air-conditioned room, clean linen, personal reading lights, charging outlets for our devices, and dedicated storage cabinets.
- Family Privacy: Having a door you can lock means the kids can unwind, rest, and sleep peacefully throughout the voyage without ambient noise from communal corridors.
Ticket Rates & Accommodations Overview
For travelers planning their upcoming sea trip, here is a general breakdown of accommodation types and average fare ranges on the 2GO Masagana CDO–Cebu–Manila route:

Rates vary depending on booking season, promo fares, terminal fees, and meal inclusions.
Onboard Life & Amenities
MV 2GO Masagana feels more like a floating hotel than a basic ferry. During our time on board as we sailed from CDO to Cebu and Manila, we explored several vessel features:
- Dining Facilities: Onboard cafeteria and restaurants serving hot meals, snacks, and drinks.
- Sundeck & Viewing Decks: Perfect spots for taking in ocean views, sunset breezes, and watching the ship dock into Cebu Port.
- Convenience Stores & Lounge: Easy access to quick bites, coffee, and comfortable seating areas throughout the vessel.

Over the Horizon
Sailing aboard MV 2GO Masagana was a refreshing break from our usual highway drives. Watching the coastlines of CDO, Cebu, and Manila drift by while relaxing comfortably with the family in our own private cabin made the journey just as memorable as the destination itself.
Pack your bags, pick your favorite way to travel, and enjoy every mile of the journey.
