The Heart of Misamis Occidental: A Relaxing Road Trip from Tangub to Oroquieta
There are some drives that aren’t about the speed or the destination — they’re about the steady rhythm of the road and the peace that comes with the open highway.
Before we settled into our birthday celebration at Kenjelo Farm, we had to get there first. This journey took us through the heart of Misamis Occidental, starting from Tangub City and heading north to Oroquieta City. It was a drive defined by “pure province vibes” and the kind of refreshing inland scenery that makes you want to roll down the windows and just breathe.
Tangub to Ozamiz

We started our journey in Tangub City, known for its festive spirit and beautiful landmarks. As we moved toward Ozamiz City, the urban landscape slowly gave way to the refreshing province vibes we all crave.
Driving through Ozamiz, you feel the history and the energy of the city, but the real magic happens once you hit the open coastal roads heading north.
Along the way, we encountered several road improvement projects. While roadwork usually means slowing down, for me, it’s a sign of progress. It means the province is growing, and soon, these drives will be even smoother for families and travelers. These are the roads that remind you of the simple beauty of Mindanao—quiet, steady, and constantly moving forward.
Passing Through the Heart of the Province
One of the best things about this road trip is the string of peaceful towns you pass along the way. Each one has its own character, yet they all share that calm, coastal atmosphere:
- Clarin & Tudela: Where the roads start to open up and the greenery thickens.
- Sinacaban & Panaon: These sections offer some of the best glimpses of the sea. There’s nothing quite like the sight of the blue water on one side and the provincial life on the other.
- Aloran: As we approached the final stretch, the “pure province vibes” were at their peak.

Inside the Montero, it was all about the cruise. No rush, no stress — just the steady hum of the engine and the changing scenery outside the window.
Why This Route is a “Must-Drive”
As The Montero Guy, I document these trips to show that you don’t always need a high-mountain peak to find beauty. This drive is perfect:
- Relaxed Atmosphere: Unlike the busy main city arteries, these roads allow for a calm, steady cruise.
- Province Charm: You get to pass through the heart of peaceful towns where life moves at a much gentler pace.
- The Perfect Build-Up: This drive was the perfect “prelude” to our destination. By the time we reached the outskirts of Oroquieta, the whole family was already in “vacation mode.”
